What we collect, what we don't, and why. Last updated: 2026-07-14.

What we collect

You can use the entire calculator without giving us anything that identifies you. We ask for your salary and your state because the math needs them — never for your name, your employer, or your address. Specifically:

When you use the calculator, your answers are temporarily held in your browser's sessionStorage so a hard-refresh restores your in-progress wizard. Closing the tab clears them. If you click "Copy link to your result", the answers are encoded into a URL fragment that you can share — but you choose when this happens.

Email

There are exactly two places on this site where you can give us an email address. Both are optional, both require you to type it in yourself, and neither one stores it.

In both cases the message is delivered by Resend, an email sending service, and your address is handled under their privacy policy. We do not write your address to a database, we do not keep a mailing list, and we will never send you anything you did not ask for. There is no newsletter, and nothing to unsubscribe from.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to count page views and understand which calculators get used. Plausible is a privacy-friendly analytics service that:

Plausible records the URL you're viewing, the page you came from, your country (not city or street), the type of device, and the browser. No personal data is stored. Plausible's full privacy policy is at plausible.io/privacy-focused-web-analytics.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Maternity Tally is funded by Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies and/or device identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting www.google.com/settings/ads.

We have configured AdSense category blocking to exclude advertising categories that would be inappropriate adjacent to pregnancy/maternity content (gambling, alcohol, anti-abortion advocacy). Future loss-aware tools will additionally exclude baby-product ads, gendered baby-shower ads, and celebratory content.

Third-party vendors and ad networks may show ads to you using cookies. You can opt out of using cookies for personalized advertising by visiting optout.aboutads.info.

Data we don't collect

We deliberately don't:

Children

The site is intended for adults (employees) considering maternity leave decisions. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Updates

We update this policy when we add new third-party services or change data practices. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes when policy changes are substantive (not for typo fixes).
